DESIGN80 EXHIBITION FROM SATURDAY 17TH OF APRIL TO SUNDAY 23RD OF MAY 2010
Flavien Gaillard, antique dealer in Paris, Marché Paul Bert, specialist of contemporary furniture made by architects of the 20th century, is inviting you to the Design 1980 exhibition.
You will discover an eclectic and emblematic selection of this period. The purpose of this exhibition is to put into light a design that is still quite unknown. Indeed, it is during this period that design expands to reach an international dimension thanks to names as Ettore Sottsass, or Philippe Starck...
The designers were grouped in studies and created lots of institutional constructions and in that way created an 80's style.
Indeed, many of them were interested in redrawing furniture following different axes :
Tradition of French furniture was visited again by creators as Pierre Paulin who realised cabinet works for national furniture.
Praise of black was defended by Philippe Starck (tray Herbert Schoenheit 1986, lighting table Tamisch 1984), Martin Szekely (Long Chair Pi), or even Pascal Mourgue. The passion for black was followed in fashion by creators like Yohji Yamamoto...
Furniture was democratised by publishing thanks to new editors like xo, Les Trois Suisses that diffused works of international famous designers even by mail order.
Last but not least the role of the Valorisation de l'Innovation dans l'Ameublement - translation : Promotion of Innovation in Furniture)- which gave a new dynamism to furniture creation at this time, allowing development through different aspects, such as the furniture technicality or the use of new materials...
