STYLIZED BIRD SPOON

Timor Island, Indonesia

First half of the 20th century

Brown buffalo horn

H.: 12; L.: 4.5 cm

Short spoon whose spoon is formerly damaged at its end. A rectangular notch delimits the birth of the handle. The latter is perforated with a stylized zoomorphic figure: tapered beak resting on its back, eyes in small cups, plumage in checkerboard of incised diamonds. He wears a trefoil crest on the top of his head.

The bird symbolizes the link between Heaven and Earth.
