ARMET of Gioco del Ponte
Tuscany, Italy, late 16th century
Wrought iron
H.:27; L .: 19; Thickness: 34 cm
Weight: 3 kg
(Lack on the ridge, no restoration since its original adaptation)

Closed armor helmet with twisted crest wrought iron gong. The stamp is engraved with three bands of incised lines parallel to the crest. It bears the initials "F" on the left and "B" on the right handwritten, probably referring to the identification marks of its owner.
The mobile visor, called a mesh, is formed by a grid with eleven vertical arched and riveted bars. It allowed visibility and perceptibility of the voice while protecting the face. A hook on the lower right part kept it closed.
The side parts are pierced with circular holes arranged in a rosette forming a fan. The chin bar is mobile. The gorget is wide in section and cut into a point on the front part.
The plumail holder is rectangular in section, placed at the end of the crest.

This helmet refers to the famous “Bridge Game” which took place in Pisa, which has now become a traditional festival. The inhabitants of the Tramontana neighborhoods, located north of the Arno, faced those of Mezzogiorno, in the south, on the bridge that overhangs the river.
This armet has been added the grilled visor on the occasion of its use for the Gioco del Ponte .
