MEMPO: protective half mask for samurai, Tengu type
Edo period late eighteenth early nineteenth
Iron, lacquer, horsehair and gold powder
In lacquered iron with, sprinkled with gold powder.
The hooked nose is fixed by notches.
Horsehair mustache.
Pierced chin (asenagashi no ana).
The eyebolts (orekugi) for fixing the helmet cord are made of iron.
The yodarekake (throat protector) with four blades connected by a lacing.
Interior in red lacquer.
Very good condition. on plinth.
