Romantic DAGGER depicting Adam and Eve entwined
19th century European work
Bronze and iron
Total length: 27.8cm
Blade length: 17.5cm
The gilded bronze handle is animated in the round by a naked and entwined couple, the man supporting the female figure by the hips. The circular base on which they rest overlooks the guard. It is perpendicular to the blade and made up of two coiled snakes. Their heads, oriented towards the stage, constitute the quillons.
The iron blade is straight, four-sided (added, but in its entire length)
These two animal figures are to be compared to the Tempter of Genesis. Also, it is probably Adam and Eve.
