Glazed earthenware basin -
Pré d'Auge, Normandy late 18th century -
Popular Art, traditional Norman ceramics.
Intended to heat the beds, these basins were robust and nevertheless could reconcile an aesthetic form and openwork decorations ("gills") to let the heat of the embers diffuse.
The glaze based on copper oxides runs through the room with a beautiful effect of moiré.
We see 3 "keys" including one more important, in no case due to use; these "cooking touches" are due to contact in the potter's oven with other pieces placed next to, below or above the piece; thus we can see the thickness of the enamel in excess thickness on the periphery of the keys, which is never the case for the égrenures.
Good condition, no fel.
