Description

PEAR POWDER

Popular work from the beginning of the 19th century

Coconut, coral, nickel silver and studs

Long. : 16.5cm

Powder bulb made from a hollowed-out coconut shell, finely engraved with two round medallions representing the bust portraits of Napoleon I and the profile portraits of Napoleon III. The latter is accompanied by nine portrait medallions and a floral ring. The rest of the pear is finely carved with carved foliage scrolls.

The nickel silver beak constitutes the mouth of an anthropomorphic character, with broad eyebrows, a radiant beard and swirling hair. Its eyes, with applied metal inserts, are adorned with coral pupils.

Two suspension rings puddle the temples of this grotesque face.
