Collection of Buffon's quadrupedal animals, forming 362 colored animal plates, used for all editions of this author's works; classified by orders and genera on Linnaeus's system. With 2 tables; the first, following the system of Linnaeus; the second, in alphabetical order.
In Paris, Hôtel de Thou, around 1790. 2 in-4 volumes (28 x 21 cm).
Half brown calf, ribbed back, burgundy title pieces. Rear binding.
Some usual rednesses on some boards.
Very good general condition.
Well complete with all the boards.
362 plates numbered in pen as recommended by the editor in very beautiful period colors.
This collection is the natural complement to the 10 volumes of birds by Martinet and Buffon, but it is infinitely rarer. (Bibliography Brunet 1, p 1379 - Nissen 1, 672).
