A perfect representation of the voyage around the world of the Frégate Vénus led by Abel Du Petit Thouars from 1836 to 1839. The scientific contribution was considerable in terms of oceanography, measuring depths of over four thousand metres, with the discovery of plankton, geology, botany and anthropology.
This rare aquatint was directed and engraved by M. Borromée, based on a painting by Mrs A. Alberti.
