Ziesenis, Danish portrait painter, had a successful career with his king Frederick V (1723-1766), then briefly in the Netherlands, but especially in German courts, Hanover, Brunswick and Prussia.
If he was prized for his ceremonial portraits, the portraits at the end of his career present a greater simplicity, similar to our portrait.
