Romain de Tirtoff, known as Erté, (1892-1990) was a Russian designer, illustrator, sculptor and stylist. In 1913 he immigrated to Paris and began his career alongside the famous couturier Paul Poiret

He made hundreds of drawings and 240 covers for the women's fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar Erté created sets and costumes for the world's greatest opera houses, designed dresses, accessories, jewelry, perfume bottles and even furniture
It was in 1960 that he became a sculptor and notably produced fantastic and abstract works in aluminium, iron, copper and wood, painted in bright colors.
In 1968, aged 75, Erté produced his first lithographs and serigraphs which had extraordinary success thanks to their exhibition at the GrosvenorGammery in London.

Erté, nicknamed the "Father of Decorative Arts", influenced style and design from the 20th century to the present day. Several of his paintings are in museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London

Erté has created for more than 80 years in all areas of artistic and cultural life
