Watercolor on paper representing the wooden bridge in Avignon, the last wooden bridge over the Rhône, built from 1806 to 1818.
The bad weather, the violence of the river and the fragility of the materials used, arches are regularly swept away by the water, in 1821, 1830 and 1840. In 1843 the portion spanning the arm of Avignon is destroyed and replaced by a suspension bridge.
