M.CHAT (for Monsieur Chat) is an alias for street artist Thoma Vuille, a French and Swiss artist who started painting when he was 15 years old. In 1995 he entered Visual Art School in Orléans. In 1997 the first M.CHAT appeared on Orléans walls. M.CHAT is an orange yellow cat with a wide smile, painted with acrylic paint. Thoma Vuille was inspired by a child drawing he saw in a school in Orleans, and decided to “put human sense and love in the city”. His career expanded internationally, and he painted cats in Tours, Nantes, Saint-Etienne, Paris, London, Vienna, Geneva and New York. On March 13, 2007 he was caught painting in Orleans streets and was forced to reveal his identity. He stopped incognito graffiti and started working with institutions and artistic events. The French Region Poitou- Charentes commissioned him as part of the cultural policy named “Street art in Poitou-Charentes”.
