Slingshot : nm Hybrid object located between the tool, the weapon and the work of art.
This exhibition presents a collection of more than seventy slingshots from Africa.
Beyond their utilitarian function – mainly linked to subsistence hunting, crop protection or learning precision, slingshots are distinguished by a diversity of shapes and decorations which bear witness to the cultural identities and geographical contexts in which they were produced.
Through their design, ornamentation and use, these objects illustrate the encounter between functionality and aesthetic expression, inscribing the artisanal gesture in a material and immaterial heritage rich in meaning.
