On Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, November 2nd, Galerie Jean-Baptiste Bouvier is delighted to welcome Markus Winter for the launch of his book Berlin Deko.
The author will present and sign his publication, accompanied by a selling exhibition showcasing a curated selection of furniture and objects emblematic of early-20th-century Berlin design, on view at the gallery through the end of December.
Edited by Markus Winter, Berlin Deko offers a fresh exploration of German and Central European furniture and interior design from 1910 to 1930.
Far from the familiar narrative placing the Bauhaus as the sole successor to Art Nouveau, this publication reveals the richness and diversity of a period marked by extraordinary creative energy, in which Berlin emerged as a major international hub of innovation in design.
The book shines a light on a uniquely German expression of Art Deco, blending historical references, expressionist influences, and folkloric motifs. Architects and designers such as Fritz August Breuhaus de Groot, Emil Fahrenkamp, Jean Krämer, and Paul Thiersch experimented with bold, hybrid forms, balancing geometric rigor with baroque exuberance.
This event offers a special opportunity to meet Markus Winter, discover his editorial work, and admire the selection of pieces assembled by Jean-Baptiste Bouvier, each a testament to the vibrant and cosmopolitan spirit of this aesthetic movement.
