An illustrator to Paul Bert Serpette!
An illustrator trained at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, Juliette Binet has given much thought to images related to the book. Returning to school from 2013 in cabinetmaking and marquetry, she began to consider images related to objects.
Plunged into books of entomological plates and with companion the magnificent work of Pascal Désir Maisonneuve, where the enthusiastic and grotesque carved figures of the Renaissance, where one comes to seek the mixed face with the aquatic, the animal, she sought in this series of mirrors-inlaid masks to create a family of monsters, each punctuated by a small oval mirror on the scale of a human face.
This family currently counts 9 members, but it tends to grow, with the discovery of a new sheet of veneer, of an unknown essence. in the course of work, the raw material has become more and more important: around a pattern of ash loupe or a cut of palm will come to organize the drawing and the choice of other species , in search of the right balance.
Parallel to this series, I wish to continue my work of marquetry by designing objects calling the 3rd dimension and to tackle furniture in collaboration with cabinetmakers. His work will remain marked by his relation to books and narrative, the images no longer being articulated in sewn notebooks, but on the different faces of an object or even in the interior of a piece of furniture.
