Description

COIGNET FLINTLOCK SHOTGUN IN CHAMBERY
France, 18th century
Steel, wood, horn, silver, bone.
LT: 143 – Barrel length: 103.5cm

Mouth diameter: 16.5mm

Barrel with sides on the first third, then round; the joint is decorated with an engraved, foliate and gilded ring. The upper side is marked LAZARINO COMINAZZO. Rice grain front sight. Breech tail with solid rear sight.
Flat-body lock, signed COIGNET in CHAMBERY; swan-neck hammer; bassinet with fire screen; drum spring roller. Steel counter-lock.
Steel butt plate.
Frame in veined walnut, with short barrel, with single-leaf checkering.
Iron grenadiers, one with a clapper. The wooden ramrod has a horn tip.

Fairly good condition. Surface corrosion of the barrel with original blueing at 30%; the Lazarino Cominazzo marking is certainly a 19th century fantasy.
