DAGGER called Kindjal
Caucasus, North Dagestan
19th century
Steel, silver, horn, velvet, wood
Long. total: 50.1 cm; Long. blade: 37.5 cm

Curved handle with two horn plates, two polylobed rivets with spherical cabochons in nielloed silver, chiseled with geometric patterns.
Niello silver mitre engraved en suite.
Double-edged steel blade, reversed center edge on each side.
Wooden scabbard covered with red velvet, two nielloed silver fittings engraved with scrolls.
Fixed ring suspension bail.

These daggers were weapons for men but also ceremonial objects.
