DAGGER called Kindjal

Caucasus, Northern Dagestan

19th century

Steel, silver, wood, leather, brass

Long. total: 47.1 cm; Long. blade: 34.9 cm

(Old accidents)

Curved handle with two plates, two polylobed rivets with conical brass cabochons on one side and silver on the other side.

Mitre chiseled with geometric patterns in niello silver.

Double-edged steel blade, center ridge, punch in the first third.

Wooden scabbard covered with leather, two niello silver fittings engraved with scrolls and geometric patterns.

Fixed suspension ring bail.

These daggers were weapons for men but also ceremonial objects.
