Steel, brass, horn.

Slightly curved blade, with hollow sides, with one cutting edge and one false edge, with a flat back marked: Manufacture de Châtellerault, April 1848.
Handle of horn with copper filigree. Gilt brass crossguard, with in its center a double-crowned shield, one with an eagle and the other with a bull, and decorated with foliage; the ends of the quillons are adorned with lion heads; the smooth back is marked R 61; two rivets reinforce its attachment to the handle. Short-skirted shell-shaped pommel, chased with flowers, acanthus leaves, palmettes and rosettes, its lid has a lion's head; one rivet.
A gilt brass scabbard with four slits on the front, each fitted with a richly decorated silvered brass plaque. The first plaque depicts a shako with a plume and musical instruments against a foliate background; the other three feature flowers, foliage, and acanthus leaves. These are framed by gilt brass reinforcement bands with a laurel leaf frieze. The upper section is flanked by two suspension hooks. The lower section, also in gilt brass, features a lion's head surmounting a ring engraved with heart-shaped motifs and positioned above a strong trefoil-shaped spearhead adorned with flowers and palmettes. The back is smooth except for the three bands and is marked R 61 at the top.
Very good condition (one hook was previously re-welded)
