Flat samurai WEAPON HAT, Taira clan. Signed.
Japan, Edo period (1603-1868)
Wood and lacquer
Diam.: 42.5 cm
This circular headgear is made of carved wood imitating the assembly of thirty-two riveted iron slats. A tehen is also carved on the center. Matte black lacquer on the top.
On the reverse, this hat of arms is lacquered red, with a golden mòn, representing a butterfly with raised wings, Taïra clan. Signed in red in its center.
Minor accidents around the perimeter, not serious.
