Marble fragment from an architectural sculpture of the goddess Hecate, 5th century B.C.

Description

Marble fragment of a triple head representing the various associations of the Greek Goddess Hecate: magic, crossroads and the moon; she is considered to be a benevolent, protective goddess who bestowed prosperity and daily blessings on the family; despite residing in the underworld Hecate is a deity with positive links to magic in witchcraft as the Mother of Angels.

Represented here in the form of a triple-head, this piece would have formed part of a monument of three women back to back as part of a statue used on an altar in a home.
