Eugène Collinot, Blue bonsai planter with a motif of branches and cherry blossoms, circa 1865, France

Galerie Vauclair - Aidjolate

Description

This very beautiful planter is a product of Eugène-Victor Collinot (1824-1882); one of the most important ceramists of the second half of the 19th century, earthenware maker and founder of the earthenware factory "Collinot & Cie" in 1863.

Designed to house a bonsai tree, it is shallow. Its intense blue is softened by the delicate colors of the cherry branches. Other floral and star motifs adorn the entire rim. Decorated right down to its base, this planter is a charming piece.
