Gilt bronze clock, Carrara marble base decorated with foliage friezes
We find on the decoration of this clock mythological symbols. The character on the left is the god Chronos, the god of time. The character on the right is the goddess Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom, warlike strategy, the arts, science and crafts, justice and combat, but also the patron goddess of artisans and the city of Athens.
The serpent on the marble globe is the symbol of Athena.
We find in the subject of this clock, the opposition between the passing of time (death) and the warrior, artistic and protective youth.
