French peasant vest, circa 1910

Description

French peasant's jacket, circa 1910

This woolen vest with the original repairs was a popular model for the French peasant population at the beginning of the 20th century. This type of vest was typically worn in the countryside as the fabric was warm and was versatile, able to be worn both in the fields and in town. This vest, with "denim" style patchwork repairs and the contemporary cut is the type of item that serves as an inspiration for fashion designers such as Raf Simons, Comme des Garçons or Christophe Lemaire.
