Frédéric Coridon

Description

AMAZON SLIPPER-STRIFT
France, 18th century
Iron, fabric and leather
Height: 12 cm; Width: 22 cm
(previous deficiencies)

Tilting stirrup-slipper with an iron sole covered in brown leather and a hemmed heel giving it its name of "slipper".

The shoe is made of braided plant fibers and covered with leather – as were the iron branches used to attach the stirrup leather, which were wrapped in leather to protect the ankle.

The rocker system allowed for quick release of the foot in case of emergency.
