1880′ Pair of Bronze Wall Lights Children Playing 2 Trumpets Model by Jean HAURE

Pair of Louis XVI style two-armed gilt bronze wall lights after a model by Jean HAURE decorated with busts of child musicians, interlaced acanthus leaves, thyrse scroll, 19th century. Height: 37 cm. These wall lights were made after the model delivered by Jean Hauré in 1787, cast by Forestier and continued by Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) for the Château de Saint-Cloud, a copy of which is kept at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Another series of four wall lights is in the Wrightsman collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Jean Hauré was a member of the Académie de Saint-Luc and became a master founder making gilt bronze furniture and objets d'art for the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne from 1785 to 1788. He is also recorded as supplying a set of gilt bronze sconces for Marie-Antoinette's card room at Compiègne. In his capacity as a contractor, Hauré also supplied other furniture bronzes for royal palaces such as a set of firedogs that was delivered to Louis XVI's Salon de Jeu at Fontainebleau in 1786.
