20th century sculpture by Man Ray entitled "Herma Hermaphrodite", numbered 51/550, in polished silver bronze on a tapered wooden base.

Man ray (1890-1976) is one of the pioneering artists of surrealism and has largely contributed to this movement through his polymorphic work, namely paintings, objects, assemblages, photographs and films.

This sculpture dated 1975, is a repeated image in the work of Man Ray, the artist originally sculpted the figure Herma in 1919. Inspired by Greek mythology, a herma or herm is a statue of primitive fertility of the Greek god Hermes. Man Ray stylized his interpretation of the female herma figure with a robust belly and thighs, emphasizing the concepts of female fertility and anatomy.

This sculpture is in good condition, it has a trace of wear on one of the hips and a very slight addict on the bottom of the sculpture. Signed and numbered.
