Description
Exceptional series of four (4) carnival masks from the Plasters of Nice, made of raised iron wire mesh and whose eyes are painted by hand.
In 1892 appeared for the first time at the Nice carnival, the plaster confetti ,
also called " Italian confetti".
Used alongside paper confetti, it was finally banned due to numerous accidents in 1955.
These masks were wonderfully staged by Man Ray in his silent film
and in black and white “Les mystères du Château de Dé“ (1929), shot in the Villa Noailles in Hyères, work by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens.
Mask height between 20 and 22cm / 8 and 8.8 inches.
Total height with base between 50 and 62cm / 20 and 24.8 inches.
