Tell us about your background
Since my childhood, I have been immersed in the world of antiques. My parents were in the profession and my grandfather was a collector. I started working with my mother in 1992, then I resumed training in art history during three years. This profession is above all a profession of passion and this passion was born from the family soil.
What is your specialty?
For about twenty years, I have been presenting stained-glass windows. Being initially established in Chartres, a city internationally recognized for stained glass, I was immersed in this universe and I very quickly had to heart to restore this part of the French heritage that had fallen a bit in disuse In Chartres, we are fortunate to benefit from state-of-the-art restoration workshops that work with old glass and endowed with real know-how.
Glass has been found since antiquity, in Egypt. In France the arrival of cathedrals marks the heyday of stained glass, it is then a very expensive religious art In the Renaissance, there is a boom in this technique and we starts to see stained glass windows installed in houses. If the 18th century is less rich in the area, the end of the 19th century is a real revival thanks to the appearance of new creative techniques. New cooking methods make it possible to better master temperatures and then make the stained glass easier to achieve. We add enamels, we paint in grisaille and we find large architectural elements in beautiful homes We bring stained glass up to date in the winter garden. These elements have aged and the restoration being very difficult, many parts have been destroyed, which is a great pity because it is an important heritage that must not be forgotten.
Today, that's why I work with architects and decorators Daring to install a stained-glass window in an interior requires real reflection and technique We now have the possibility of highlighting the stained-glass windows, we can install them for make sections of walls, screens, to hide from one vis-à-vis… The possibilities are endless!
Stained glass is an art that is not highly valued and too often confined to religious art in the minds of people I like to make them discover all the other facets, to show that it is a specialty that requires a lot of technique, know-how and experience Transmission is a very important aspect of my job
Do you have a particular piece to present to us?
I am currently presenting a stained glass window representing an in-depth seaside. It was commissioned by Louis Fricotelle, industrialist and art lover around 1910 from the decorator Henri Rapin (1873-1939) Henri Rapin had organized the Universal Exhibition of 1925 and represents the figure of the artist-decorator of the early twentieth century
This stained glass window is very interesting because its spirit is marked by the junction between Art Nouveau and Art Deco, in a very fauvist spirit thanks to its intense colors
I particularly like to find pieces like this one, exceptional, with a real history.
