Description

“Rod” mounting system patented between 1953 and 1955

Long 128 cm; High 74 cm; Depth 35 cm

World War II marks a turning point in André Sornay's production, as everywhere in France. The shortage of materials and the decline in quality push him to seek new solutions. He perfected the standardization of production and perfected the principle of fully removable furniture, a rapid assembly system for furniture for which he filed various patents between 1953 and 1955, the “Sornay tigette”, historical precedent for kit furniture. Delivered as a kit, the assembly is carried out by its workers at the customer's premises. In 1953, he exhibited this striped furniture at the Galerie Mai in Paris and was subsequently distributed by Mennecy Décoration until 1960.
