ANTHROPOMORPHIC STATUETTE

Senufo culture, Ivory Coast

First half of the 20th century

Wood with black patina

H.: 22; L.: 4.5, Thickness: 5 cm

(old slot)

Anthropomorphic wooden statuette standing on feet with incised fingers resting on a domed circular base. His legs and arms are individualized, his oval face is elongated on the chin part, his temples and corners of the lips are marked with oblique scarifications. Its mouth is half-open, its C-shaped ears, and the top of its head is topped with a small colonial-style conical hat.

His bust is marked with a rectangle in relief probably referring to a pendant.

These statuettes referred to the spirits of divination to whom offerings and libations were given.
