Officer's saber of the National Guard or National Volunteers said to the climbing lion
France, around 1790 - 1792
Steel, gilded brass, sheepskin.
Long. Height: 88.5cm; L. of blade: 73cm
Brass frame. Cap in leonine skin and long tail in its gilding. Tied handle, covered with sheepskin and filigree. Joining arc extending by an openwork top with two reinforcing rings.
Between the secondary branches, lion climbing on a tree trunk. Between the bow and the lower secondary branch, there is a rooster on a pomegranate.
Blade à la Montmorency, blue in the third, with decoration on a gold background: Sun, stars, Arabesque, half-moon, beam of arms and the motto Vaincre ou Die; the second part is in its original shiny polish.
Leather scabbard, with two brass fittings; clevis with button; snap with asymmetrical iron dart
