Description

Bronze and preparatory drawing of an “elephant” by the Belgian artist Patrick Villas (1961).

Bronze signed and dated 1999 and marked Cire Perdue. Bears the mark of the founder Art Casting in Ghent (Belgium). Numbered 6/6.

Dimensions length 47cm x height 27cm x depth 17cm.

The preparatory drawing (30 x 40cm frame not included) in grease pencil is signed.

The visit to Antwerp Zoo inspired Villas to observe and draw the animals. From his studies on the spot, he began to work on his sculptures in his studio. His personal style captures all the nuances of the different animals, both in their movement and in the textures of the fur. Patina and molding combine to create movement, tension and energy. The works of Patrick Villas are part of many collections across Europe and have received many commissions including a life-size Jaguar he created for the Royal Museum of Zoology in Antwerp.
