Round barrel flat on the top, scratched, and stamped with the starry S; semi-spherical handlebar.
Steel body, engraved and nickel-plated finish; marked on the top "MAISON LEFAUCHEUX. HENRY RIEGER SUCC. 37 VIVIENNE STREET. Starry S hallmark on the right side and numbered 7940 on the left side. Dual action.
Five-chamber barrel, en-suite finish and hallmarked: 11 - S spangled, and hallmark of the Liège test bench: ELG.
Loading door. Retractable trigger tail.
Mother-of-pearl butt pads, numbered I & G.
Luxury finish; entirely engraved with foliage and intertwined foliage.
Varnished walnut box. Encrypted on the top I & G on a brass medallion. The interior is lined with purple velvet, marked in gold: MAISON LEFAUCHEUX. HENRY RIEGER SUCC. 37 STREET VIVIENNE PARIS. With its original accessories.
Very good general condition.
Provenance: Inès Gaches (married Sarraute), doctor of her time, famous for having developed the so-called "Belle Epoque" corset for women, less restrictive than the original corsets. This made her fortune until the 1920s, when corsets were replaced by elastic girdles.
Henry Rieger entered the service of the Lefaucheux-Laffiteau couple in 1862 and also managed, on behalf of Mrs. widow Casimir Lefaucheux (1810 – 1863), the shop at 37 Rue Vivienne.
In 1873 he joined forces with Jean Pierre Laffiteau and became the owner of Maison Lefaucheux in 1876.
Henry Rieger died on February 17, 1913, the Maison Lefaucheux became the property of Célestin Modé .
