Created in 1880, at the turning point of the Second Empire and the beginnings of the Belle Epoque, Maison Jansen owes its name to the Dutchman Henri Jansen, an antiquarian - decorator who bequeathed to this mythical sign his precursor eye. Jansen, the world's leading design firm, was designed to offer everything needed for interior design. With its workshops and stores in the rue Pergolèse and Rue Saint-Sabin in a 5-storey building, Jansen mobilizes some 200 cabinetmakers, sculptors, gilders, upholsterers, engravers and architects and designers to design palaces, wall papers, Furniture, mirrors, chandeliers, etc. Nothing is too good for its wealthy clients, who are often crowned who seek in the Jansen style this refined and elegant blend of old and new. From the redevelopment of the White House for the Kennedy to the decoration of Mademoiselle Chanel's apartment, through the Bank of France, the Court of Holland, the Dukes of Windsor's dwellings or the apartments of the King of the Belgians, Pressed at Jansen's. Tranquil, the taste Jansen does not hesitate to co-exist in a dining room Louis XIV seats, a 70 glass table, two monumental Chinese eighteenth century potions and to deploy, on the ground, zebra skins as carpets. In another apartment, Jansen will decorate to the frame of a doorway to "Sauterelles", compass of 18th century stonecutters. The play on the transparency of glass or plexiglass will serve to bring out strong pieces like a secretary in Louis XIV tin inlaid in a bedroom.
