One of the two men is sitting on a North African saddle and is dressed in such a way as to be protected from the sand and the sun. He rides his dromedary, a firearm in his hand. His mount wears a polychrome saddle cloth with pompoms and an ornament on the neck.

The other rider holds in his right hand a tricolor flag with the words "Escadron de méhariste" written in gold letters.
