Description

“A Mathematician’s Miraculous Hiking Trail”, black marble sculpture, from 1985 by the Belgian sculptor

Pol Spilliaert (1935-2023).

This sculpture reflects the artist's characteristic style by combining organic and geometric shapes, creating an interesting sense of tension.

Pol Spilliaert studied sculpture at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de La Cambre in Brussels, where he was taught by figures such as the modernist architect Leon Stynen, from whom he graduated in 1959.

This sculpture is accompanied by a photo of Pol Spilliaert posing near his work and a handwritten letter from the artist to the first owner of the work explaining the approach and the meaning of this sculpture.

This work is listed on page 69 of the book on Pol Spilliaert by Jaak Fontier, Lannoo edition.
