Description

Unsigned bronze pedestal table from Maison Jansen with an aged oxidized mirror top. It rests on three pairs of faux bamboo legs connected by a curved triangular brace. Inspired by the style of Adam Weisweiler (1744-1820), this piece of furniture was made around 1970.

Founded in Amsterdam, Maison Jansen was renowned for the exceptional quality of its designs, which adorned royal palaces and the White House under John F. Kennedy. Its furniture combines finesse and robustness, using precious materials such as gilt bronze, brass, and marble.

Adam Weisweiler, a master cabinetmaker established in Paris in 1778, was known for his refined furniture incorporating luxurious materials (bronze, Japanese lacquer, Sèvres porcelain). He collaborated with merchants and counted Marie Antoinette and the Prince of Wales among his clients. His work is distinguished by a pronounced taste for the exotic, notably through the use of bamboo motifs.
