Infantry officer's sabre, model 1882
France, Third Republic
Steel, nickel silver, horn, brass
Long. total: 97; Long. barrel: 84.5 cm

Nickel silver frame with remaining nickel plating.
Cap with a long spoon-shaped tail, topped with three discs of decreasing diameter.
Buffalo horn rocket, filigree with twisted brass wire.
Rounded joint arch, pierced with an eyelet on the upper part.
Three secondary branches.
Oval top finished with a curved drop-shaped quillon.
Straight double-edged blade with grooves, marked "Manufacture Nationale d'armes de Châtellerault 9bre 1925 Offer d'Infre Mle 1882" and acid-etched with scrolls on each side; signed "À HELIOT ANDRÉ" on one side and "PROMO LA ST CYRIENNE" on the other; control hallmarks.
Leather tie.
Steel scabbard with nickel plating remnants on a bail ring.
