Brass mount, ovoid pommel with rivet button.
Handle with twelve rows of scales.
Rectangular cruise, chiseled ears of a Phrygian cap in relief.
Three guard branches, two of which end in brass buttons.
Straight blade with median edge.
Brass scabbard, two bail rings; half-moon dart with palmette.
The Ecole de Mars was a school teaching military and civic manners during the French Revolution.
Jacques Louis David is credited with designing these very special swords, inspired by classical models of the Roman Empire. They were awarded to graduates of the École de Mars. This school provided military and civic education from June 1, 1794, to October 23, 1794.
