At Paul Bert Serpette, Ann Massal presents an exhibition, Kaïros, during the Flea Market Festival and until October 26.
“To grasp these works is to accept that art also unfolds in what escapes the gaze.”
Ann Massal
Each of the 12 photographs—a unique print—represents a sculpture, a medium that, by its very nature, seeks to immortalize the visible in matter. This exhibition goes beyond the photographic surface, engaging the viewer in a pact. Affixed to each work, a sealed envelope awaits the purchaser. It contains a secret text, written by Paul Valéry, other personalities, or even a complete stranger, which the owner may or may not decide to discover. Kairos reminds us that art unfolds not only in visible space, but also in the unexpected. This arrangement gives the viewer back the responsibility to imagine—or not—this hidden moment.
These 12 photographs form a single work, while also constituting 12 different ones. Throughout the exhibition, a mailbox will collect visitors' comments, which the artist will then be able to draw inspiration from.
