Description
Coffee table, metal base, slate top, pewter sculpture. Unique piece by Belgian sculptor Jules Dewaele, better known as Pia Manu. A great collector of fossils and trilobites, Pia Manu creates a fossil form in pewter that he superimposes on the table top, combining it with slate mosaics. The table base is made of oxidized metal. Pia Manu treated the metals with an oxidation process that gives them a unique texture and patina. Signed Pia Manu. Acquired directly from the artist in 1983 by the previous owner. A representative of the Flemish Brutalists, he models or sculpts primitive forms with materials with a powerful or antipoetic texture (according to him), using concrete, fossils, metals, glass, earth, and slate.
