Description

Important painting by William Brock (1874-1953). This work most likely corresponds to the painting “Towards the Close of Day,” exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1907. The scene depicts a young girl accompanied by a large dog against a river landscape bathed in the light of late afternoon. The stone bridge and ruins in the background evoke the landscapes of Normandy or the banks of the Seine, subjects dear to the artist. An inscription appears on the canvas: “To my friend Amber, in remembrance of the days we spent together.” Oil on canvas, monumental format: 260 x 180 cm. England, early 20th century
