A cylindrical shaft resting on the ground, an overhanging hemispherical dome that pivots on its axis to direct the light. Two elementary volumes, no visible joints, no ornamentation.

In 1972, Gae Aulenti designed a family of three lamps in molded ABS for Artemide—the Pileino table lamp, the Mezzo Pileo, and the Pileo floor lamp—each featuring the same silhouette in three different sizes. This design dates from a time when molded plastic ceased to be merely an economical substitute and became, for Italian manufacturers, a material in its own right.
