Brush holder of Nourard-le-Franc - common Beauvaisis in Picardy - Oise -
Terracotta glazed and dated "1837" by Jean Chrisostème François.
Shape and decor typical of this production: geometric and symbolic decorative motifs (hearts, crosses, circles, floral plants) applied by inlay on a flat fan-shaped piece with two bowls in half bowls like the clams. Often offered as a wedding gift, hence the symbolism of the motifs.
Red earth, decorated with high quality both technical and aesthetic.
Originally, the tilery François punctually realizes glazed tiles decorated at the request of the roofers. The technique is transposed on a production of giant clams, brush holders, match holders and inkwells.
Work popular early nineteenth fashionable in the rural society of Beauvais.
Good condition. Folds of cooking in the ground. No fel, no shine. Very small wear of the glaze at the bottom of the buckets.
