Large bust in white Carrara marble, of a young woman in a draped garment and wearing a raised bun, on a marble pedestal foot, 19th century.
Sculpture signed Alfred Boucher (1850-1934) in the back.
Alfred Boucher knew celebrity during his lifetime with his sculptures in bronze and marble, especially busts.
He won a medal at the 1881 Salon des Artistes, a year that marked the beginning of numerous commissions, from the French aristocracy and from public commissions.
He was the teacher of Camille Claudel, and created a museum in Nogent-sur-Seine in 1902. This museum was renamed in 2017 Camille Claudel Museum.
