Shinto Tanto
Japan, 17th century, Edo period (1603-1868)

Blade weight: 178 grams

Blade (sugata): hira zukuri, iori mune, with straight quench line shugu ha.
Habaki in silver.
The rocket is in white shagreen, braided black, topped with a pair of black menuki extras representing a shishi with golden eyes.
Fuchi-Kashira en suite depicting blooming peonies in their foliage with gold and silver inlays.
Iron tsuba, decorated en suite with petals and flowers enhanced with gold and silver.
Sheath (saya) in starry lacquered wood.
Kozuka in shibushi inlaid with gilded copper representing go players during tea service. Blade signed.
Kojiri in two colours, copper and iron, with a cane motif.

Very good state of conservation.
