PORTABLE ALTAR called GA'U

Miniature altar in silver metal depicting a stylized chapel with polylobed arcades. It contains a Tibetan amulet, called tsatsa, in polychrome terracotta seated in a box protected by a small glass pane.

The silver metal pediment is worked in repoussé with nine Buddhist emblems and the head of Makara on the lower part, against a scrollwork background.

It is kept in a fabric pouch decorated with dragons. Its strap is held in place by a pair of buttons.

This portable altar provided protection to its wearer by preventing disease.
