SADDLE HORSE HARNESS

Yi culture, also called Lolo, Yunnan province, South China

Qing dynasty (1644-1912), late 19th – early 20th century

Wood, leather, fabric, lacquer, pigments and brass

Sculpted and lacquered wooden saddle, decorated with stylized flowers and dotted patterns, drawn in yellow and red ocher on a black background. It has a stitched leather sheath, a pair of carved wooden stirrups suspended from leather straps with chiselled brass fittings and adorned with en suite decor and a leather strap, embellished with large wooden beads.
